General Information

Timings :

The places are open from 6 am to 6 pm.

The earlier you start the better as you can avoid the crowd and also understand more about the acoustics and sound engineering inside the complex.

Entry charges :

Please check on the ASI website for more details.  There is a charge for Indians and a separate charge for Foreigners.

There is a separate charge for still camera, but it’s a nominal fee.

Dress Ethics :

There are no prescribed details.  Its warm here throughout the year. Use comfortable clothing.

Photography is allowed inside.

Facilities

Toilets :

There are Toilets available.

Footwear :

You will need to leave your footwear before entering the main complex. There is a footwear stand just before you climb the platform for the Mausoleum.  Its informal setup, they charge some Rs.2 to Rs.5 per pair of shoes.

Cloak Room :

There is no facility for keeping things. You can carry your backpack to keep your things with you.

Parking :

Parking can be done around the streets. No specific parking spots.

Checklist

  • Best to carry an Umbrella /Cap / Hat:    The place is all open air.  This area being tropical weather, it tends to get very warm during the day and is very hot during the summers as there is practically no shade anywhere in the temple.
  • Carry your earphones/headphones
  • Power bank / Battery pack for your phone
  • Data network – you will have a longer battery time if you are off the mobile data network. So when you are using the audio guide, you may want to get off the network.

History

The mausoleum houses the tomb of Ibrahim Adil Shah II and his wife Taj Sultana.  He was the 6th ruler of the Adil Shahi Dynasty.  The tomb was initially planned to be built for this wife Taj Sultana but later became Ibrahim Adil Shah II tomb as well.
